Better skin means something different to everyone.
Clearer tone. Firmer skin. Softer lines. Smoother scarring.
Each of those is a different concern, and each calls for a different approach.
At HeLa, we start with what your skin needs, then choose the technology to get there. We're often asked about LaseMD Ultra, XERF and CO2 by name, so here's where each one fits and how we decide what belongs in your plan.
First, What Are We Actually Treating?
When someone tells us they want "better skin," that can mean very different things.
In consultation, most concerns fall into one of three categories:
The surface: uneven tone, sun damage, dullness, enlarged pores and early fine lines.
The structure: skin that has started to lose firmness, a softening jawline, crepey texture on the neck.
The depth: etched lines, acne scarring and more advanced sun damage that sits well below the surface.
When the Concern Is the Surface
Uneven tone, sun damage, dullness, rough texture and enlarged pores all live in the upper layers of the skin.
The goal here is a reset: clearing what has built up and revealing a smoother, brighter, more even surface.
Where we often start: LaseMD Ultra
LaseMD Ultra is a 1927 nm thulium laser. It's non-ablative, which means it creates thousands of microscopic thermal zones in the upper layers of the skin without removing the skin itself. As those zones heal, the skin sheds damaged cells and pigment and resets with a clearer finish.
Those same microchannels also allow targeted serums applied immediately after treatment to penetrate far more effectively than they would on intact skin. That pairing is a big part of the result.
When the Concern Is Structure
Sometimes the surface looks fine, but the skin has started to lose its firmness. The jawline softens. The neck looks a little crepey. Skin doesn't bounce back the way it used to.
That isn't a surface problem, and surface treatments won't solve it. The goal here is rebuilding support from beneath.
Where we often start: XERF
XERF isn't a laser. It's a radiofrequency treatment designed to deliver controlled heat at more than one depth beneath the skin, to support structural skin tightening. The surface stays intact while that heat stimulates collagen remodelling for firmer, more resilient skin over time.
Because radiofrequency doesn't target pigment, it's suitable for all skin tones.
What structural treatment won't do is clear brown spots or refine texture. It's about support, not surface.
When the Concern Runs Deeper
Etched lines, acne scarring and years of accumulated sun damage sit well below the surface. Gentle renewal won't reach them, and tightening alone won't smooth them.
The goal here is true resurfacing: removing damaged skin and triggering a significant rebuild beneath it.
Where we often start: CO2 laser resurfacing
CO2 laser resurfacing is the most intensive of the three. At HeLa, we use the eCO2 3D, a fractional ablative laser. It removes microscopic columns of skin while heating the deeper tissue around them, creating real change at the surface and meaningful collagen remodelling below.
This is where we see the most dramatic change from a single treatment.
Deep resurfacing isn't the right fit for everyone. Skin tone, history of pigmentation, your schedule and your tolerance for downtime all factor into whether it's the right choice, or whether a gentler path will get you there more safely.
When It's More Than One Concern
Most skin isn't one concern.
It's very common to see sun damage and early laxity in the same face. Treating only one often leaves people feeling like something is still missing.
That's the thinking behind our K-Luxe Protocol, the heart of our Regenerate Package. It rebuilds structure from beneath while refining tone and texture at the surface, pairing XERF with LaseMD Ultra. Two concerns, one cohesive plan.
How We Decide
We don't choose the device and then find something to treat.
In consultation, we look at your skin type and tone, your main concern, your history with pigment or sensitivity, your schedule and how much downtime you can genuinely give your skin.
Sometimes the answer is a series of gentler treatments.
Sometimes it's one deeper one.
Sometimes it's a combination.
Why Winter Is the Time to Act
Lower UV, shorter days and a calendar that naturally slows down make the colder months the ideal window for corrective skin work.
It's easier to protect healing skin. It's easier to plan around downtime. And collagen-based results that start now are still building by spring.
If you've been going back and forth on which treatment is right for you, that's exactly what a consultation is for.
